LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR 344 MILE JOURNEY...
We started our journey in Milwaukee on August 26th, 2017 and reached the shores of Lake Superior on September 19th, 2017. Enjoy some pictures and stores from the trail!
Day two! Still in Milwaukee County.
Beach artwork at Harrington Beach State Park
Enjoying the shores of Lake Michigan at Kohler Andre State Park!
We used the Fox River State trail to connect us into Green Bay. Lots of gravel trail made it one of our favorites!
Enjoying our Thanksgiving dinner (instant potatoes, stuffing, and cranberries) at and Air BnB we stayed at. The homeowners lived near the trail and let us pitch our tent on their land!
One of our favorite finds on the trip! This fox snake was right in front of Julia's face and she didn't even realize it (literally).
Alyssa enjoying one of the scenic views we had on the trail next to Long Lake in Wisconsin
Julia resting on the trail. Every 5 miles we would take rests to make sure we were staying hydrated energized. This helped us break up the days into tolerable increments.
One of our backcountry campsites on the Brule River. This river separates Wisconsin from Michigan!
One of our favorite campsites in Iron River, Michigan. If you ever get up there, sleep under the starts next to Golden Lake. The northern lights were visible this night!
Fortunately, we ran into many pubs along the way where we connected with locals about our project. Many of them offered us a warm place to say and a warm meal. Very thankful for everybody we met! This is near the end at Bergland Bay Bar.
Enjoying the overlook at Lake of the Clouds on our second to last day!
Our last night camping gave us rain all night long. We had a short day so most of our spare time in the evening was spent under our tarps in the Porcupine Mountains.
Alyssa on the last day above Lake of the Clouds.
Very thankful for our friends from the film crew that came and gave us a re-supply in Iron River, Michigan. We all ordered Spotted Cows without realizing we weren't in Wisconsin anymore.
Alyssa at the border of Michigan and Wisconsin!
Sunset over Golden Lake
One of our backcountry campsites
The North Country Scenic Trail runs from North Dakota to New York and passes through Upper Michigan. We were lucky enough to spend some time on the trail!
Julia being interviewed by a news station in the UP. We loved being able to share our story with as many people as possible!
Lake of the Clouds, Porcupine Mountains
Julia on our last day! We hiked the escarpment trail overlooking Lake of the Clouds until we reached Lake Superior!
Minutes after we dipped our toes in Lake Superior!
Very thankful for our trail angels that met us at the end!
Our campsite at Harrington Beach State Park
Heading out on the trail (county highway) from Harrington Beach. We had Julia's family meeting us that night so we were very thankful to be using day packs this day!
Kohler Andre State Park! One of the last time we'd be seeing Lake Michigan for the walk.
Julia at Harrington Beach State Park
Lake Superior
After walking across Wisconsin and into Michigan, we made it to Lake Superior!
The last night on the walk we had rain. It was a pleasant surprise to wake up to bluebird skies and beautiful weather on our last day!
After walking across Wisconsin and into Michigan, we made it to Lake Superior!
After walking across Wisconsin and into Michigan, we made it to Lake Superior!
Soaked our feet in Lake Superior to heal them from roughly 340 miles of hiking!
