On August 26, 2017 Alyssa Armbruster and Julia Robson set off on a 332-mile trek from Milwaukee to Lake Superior to raise awareness for the Great Lakes and freshwater conservation. In spite of their majesty, the Great Lakes are a fragile ecosystem and face serious threats from pollution, invasive species, climate change, and degradation and loss of wetlands. Learn from these amazing women about their inspiring journey and how you can help steward the largest body of freshwater on the planet.

Julia Robson and Alyssa Armbruster hiked 343 miles from Milwaukee to Lake Superior to promote awareness of Great Lakes issues and accomplishments. Hear about their Walk to Sustain Our Great Lakes (WSOGL), progress on the documentary The Worth of Water, and learn about issues impacting the Great Lakes. Joining them to talk about invasive species is Titus Seilheimer, a fisheries scientist with Wisconsin Sea Grant. Join us on to learn more about the WSOGL journey, the Great Lakes, and the impact and role of invasive species in the Great Lakes ecosystem, especially the fishery. Lake Michigan is Kenosha’s #1 attraction - don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about your Lake Michigan!

The Kenosha Community Sailing Center (KCSC), Kenosha Yacht Club (KYC) and the Kenosha Public Museum (KPM) are partnering to host this important event.

Save the date - July 8th, 9:30am
Join us on July 8th at the Kenosha Yacht Club. Event kick off at 9:45am! There will be a short walk (approximately one mile and suitable for strollers) and other activities, too! This event is co-sponsored by the Kenosha Community Sailing Center and the Kenosha Yacht Club. A love of Lake Michigan is the foundation for both of organizations and it's why they are supporting the Walk to Sustain Our Great Lakes.

LOCATION: Walk starts at the KYC parking lot (5130-4th Ave)
and is approximately 1 mile on paved surfaces suitable for strollers. Free! Learn about the Simmons Beach boardwalk, etc.

ACTIVITIES: Walk participants can climb the Lighthouse stairs for ½ price! Visit Kenosha History Center & Light Keeper’s house (always free). Tour the U.S. Coast Guard 45’ boat from 9:30-12:30.

Meet at the Blatz Pavilion!

Our first "day-hike" event at Grant Park was a wild success! We are excited to announce that we will be collaborating with the Friends of Lincoln Park in Milwaukee to host the second Walk to Sustain Our Great Lakes "day-hike" during their annual Spring Fest on May 6th! Lincoln Park has undergone immense changes and improvements over the past decade thanks to the efforts of local stakeholders, the Friends of Lincoln Park, the Wisconsin DNR, Milwaukee County Parks, EPA and Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. Once the location of contaminated sediments and degraded fish and wildlife habitat, the park has been revitalized! Join Julia and Alyssa for a guided tour of the park and the beautiful Milwaukee River!
